Community Outreach

    Martha's Kitchen

Martha’s Kitchen is a biweekly program offering free, nutritious lunches to our community, welcoming guests from Avon and the surrounding areas. We prepare healthy meals and provide a space where people can share food and connect.

Hosted by members of Zion and the Village of Avon, Martha’s Kitchen is a wonderful opportunity to build community and foster friendships. We invite you to join us as a guest or volunteer to help make each meal a success. We’d love to have you!

  • A church altar decorated with a colorful crocheted cloth and a blue cloth, surrounded by flowers including roses, lilies, and other blossoms in vases and arrangements.

    Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry is dedicated to offering comfort, hope, and healing. Each shawl is crafted with intention and prayer, with blessings spoken over each stitch, culminating in a final blessing before the shawl is presented to its recipient.

Betty Lou Tilly created the first prayer shawl at Zion in 2006, and our ministry continues a tradition that began in 1998 with Janet Severi Bristow and Victoria Galo, graduates of The Hartford Seminary's Women’s Leadership Institute.

  • Two men working on building a wooden table outdoors under a canopy, with tools and a sewing machine on the table, in a park-like setting with green grass and trees.

    Repair Café

Repair Café is an international organization, and we are proud to host this program in collaboration with the First Presbyterian Church of East Avon.

Our Repair Café meets monthly and provides a range of repair services including electrical, sewing, wood, and mechanical repairs. Volunteers come together to offer their skills and expertise.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with great conversation and tasty refreshments. Come to mend or have something mended - all are welcome!

  • A sign for Avalon Food Pantry featuring illustrations of fresh vegetables and fruits, including a fish, tomatoes, a lettuce head, a carrot, and an apple. The operating hours are Tuesday 11am to 2pm and Thursday 3pm to 5pm.

    Avon Food Pantry

As part of the Avon Interfaith Council, we support the Avon Food Pantry through donations and volunteers.

All are encouraged to contribute by donating non-perishable food items and toiletries. Items can be dropped off at Zion and the Avon Free Library.

The pantry operates every Tuesday and Thursday and offers essential groceries and toiletries to those in need. For more information and updates, visit the Avon Food Pantry Facebook page.
